It's Cross Country Season

This week marked the official beginning of cross country season for our homeschool xc team, the Spartans. The weekly required practices started on Tuesday. For the next 3 months, the children will practice with the team on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, and they are assigned running and cross training assignments for Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Our Spartan roster has 58 runners this year! This does not even include some of the siblings who run too! Wow! What a team! While only the 7th-12th graders may compete at the high school xc meets, all 58 runners can participate in the area 5K races. Our fall schedule includes 3 high school meets and 4, maybe 5 5K races. Our first event is August 14th.

The Spartans have new team colors this year, navy blue and kelly green. Coach Heather ordered new uniforms for the 7th-12th graders, and new Spartan t-shirts for all 58 Spartans and their families. At running camp, each participant was given a blue Spartan water bottle. My girls have made Spartan bracelets for their friends....green and blue of course.

This homeschool xc team is the highlight of my children's life this time of year. The girls are almost giddy with excitement before every practice. They love spending time with their teammates! Clay enjoys it too! Leah and Sam like the practices because they get to play with the other little brothers and sisters while the older children run. The mamas enjoy a time of fellowship, and some of them run/walk at practice too. I think that almost every Spartan family has a walking/running parent. The parents are setting a great example of lifetime fitness for their children. I am so happy to be a part of such a super group of people.
Go Spartans!

  1. Hi Roan!! Hope your weekend is going well! It's so cool that you all have something you look forward to like this. We are looking out for what we can get involved with this year besides our Keeper's at Home club. We're praying for a friend that loves the outdoors like we do, so we can do some fun things like kayaking, hiking, bike hikes etc...

Love your new blog look! Crisp and clean!
    Have fun,
    HUGS,
    Becky

  2. I hope to see you guys if you run it the Bodock. I had hoped to walk, but have injured my legs. I though it would pass, but a PT friend took a look at me this week-end and is strongly suggesting I go to the dr. Oh, well... Maybe I'll come down to at least say to everyone!!
