We changed sheets on beds, washed loads of laundry (and even got some of it folded!), scrubbed bathrooms, dusted, vacuumed, and generally tidied up the entire house. I also cleaned out our pool and mowed our back yard to help out the boys.
The men mowed every blade of our grass, both around the house as well as all the other grass we have from our house to the highway. They also trimmed trees and bushes, weedeated (is that a word?), edged, blew, burned trash, and also generally tidied up the outside.
After the work was done, Jimmy went for a run, the little children watched a movie, Olivia sewed, and Julie and I went shopping at the mall. Julie has grown about 4 inches since January, and her foot has grown 2 or 3 sizes. So she needed some new shoes and church dresses. We found both, and we ended our shopping trip with a visit to the bookstore where Julie bought a new book, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy.
We enjoyed BBQ (that had been in the crock pot all day) for supper, and then the children swam in the clean, and very chilly pool. Everyone was tired and asleep by 9:30.
It was a productive Labor Day.
John and I both recently noticed how tall Julie is getting! Beautiful girl, inside and out!
ReplyDeleteI have to tell you how much I enjoy reading your blog:-) Even though I am not blessed to homeschool, I am so inspired by the way you are teaching your children responsibility and contributing to the household through chores. Reading about your family pitching in together has really encouraged me as I strive to involve my daughters in the household duties, and area that I have ashamedly lacked in until recently.
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to say thanks!
