Homeschooling a High Schooler

I have an article posted over at The Homeschool Classroom today. It is all about preparing your students now, while they are younger, for being successful homeschool students during their high school years. Please click here to read the complete article.

  1. I don't know what we'll do in the high school years, but I love that my two oldest are already largely independent learners. I like that about Apologia, as well.

I think I'll write another 90 day Bible post to follow-up on some of your questions.

About the classics... my crazy parents actually paid me to read them when I was young. Can you believe that? I guess it worked, though : ). I loved Jane Austen, especially Emma and Pride and Prejudice. I'm reading The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes on my Kindle now. It's so great! I have two hard copies, but it's a very thick book and not easy to take along or read while nursing. Have you read Little Women? I have to admit I'm not crazy about Steinbeck and Hemmingway, though I guess they're required reading. I loved the Russian authors, but it's not easy to keep their characters straight. Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment is one of my all-time favorites. I've read it three or four times. That should get you started : ).

    Have a great day!

  2. Hi Roan. I followed you from To Be Busy at Home. I just saw that you had asked her about a reading list. I am planning to participate in a Classic Reading Challenge for 2011 and prepared a list of classics recommended for women. It is at this link, if you'd like to browse through it.

  4. I will have one in high school next year!

Thanks for your visit! I do run-some. I am doing C25K, on the treadmill, I don't like cold! I do ChaLean Extreme, Turbo Jam and Turbo Fire. I sometimes mix some Jillian stuff here and there. I workout 5-6 days a week :)
