Resolutions Part 3

Create A Booklist

I have always been an avid reader, although my actual reading time has varied since I have had children. I have gone through seasons (pregnant and very, very sick, newborn baby, beginning of each school year) where I have read very little or not at all. I have also had seasons (like in the summers) where I have read numerous books--one summer I read all 14 books in Karen Kingsbury's Baxter family series.

But aside from reading them out loud to my children, I have rarely read any classics. I usually keep more than one book going at a time. I like to read how to be a better Christian wife and mother type books, homemaking books, and some fiction. This year, I am making a list of books that I want to complete, and for the first time, I am including some well-known classics that I plan to read to myself---in addition to prereading for Sonlight or reading out loud to the children.

In making this booklist for 2011, I have had to keep in mind two things:
  1. I am reading the Bible in 90 days (doing it now, and plan to do it again later in the year).
  2. I always have at least one book that I am pre-reading for Sonlight or Notgrass history.
Both of those things take a good portion of my reading time, but I am still going to make an additional list. I am planning to tackle most of my list this summer, and during the 6 months of the year that I am not doing the 90 Day Bible reading.

So here's the list. Not too long, but I think that this is a resolution that I can keep.

  • Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
  • One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp
  • Large Family Logistics by Kim Brenneman
  • Family Feasts for $75 a Week by Mary Ostyn
  • Voyage of the Dawn Treader by C.S. Lewis
  • The Silver Chair by C.S. Lewis
  • The Count of Monte Crisco by Alexandre Dumas
  • Take Four by Karen Kingsbury
  • Behind the Palace Walls by Katie Nicholl
  • The Confession by John Grisham
So what are you reading? Any suggestions for me? I will reevaluate in August, and see if I can add any more books to my list.

  1. I am about to finish Ann Voskamp's book. You will be changed! It is wonderful. Radical, by David Platt...it is about our church and living out our faith. It too will change you. I should add classics to my things to read. It would kill two birds...spend less and reading...because classics can be found at the library. Thanks for sharing your list.

  4. Reading is my all time favorite past time. I am so glad I am not the only one who has several books going at once. Sadly, my reading time is so limited. How do you carve out that time? Does everyone respect your reading time? I would love some ideas so I can get in a little more reading time.

  5. You need to read "Heaven is for Real". I wrote a review on it. http://tupelodeals.blogspot.com/2011/01/book-review-heaven-is-for-real.html

Also, Radical by David Platt is awesome!
