90 Day Bible Challenge

One of my New Year's Resolutions is to read the Bible all the way through in 90 days. The last time I read the entire Bible was my freshman year in college--and it took a year.

I began January 1, not January 3 like the other moms doing this challenge via MomsToolbox.com, but I am already behind. I am not concerned, but I am behind. I read ahead on the plane ride down to Disney World, but just like I expected, I got behind while on vacation. But, it's ok. I am slowly catching up, and I think that in three or four more days I will be back on track. I have 3 chapters to go to be finished with Day 11, and I am supposed to be on Day 15. Ever since we have been home from Disney World (Wednesday afternoon), Leah and Sam have had the flu, and I have spent A LOT of time on the couch or in the bed in between them. I have taken advantage of this time to read, read, read my Bible--that is how I have been catching up.

So I want to encourage you if you are doing the 90 Day Challenge too. If you get behind, don't throw in the towel. Persevere! That is my focus word for this year, and I am already putting it to good use. (And I hope that by the end of the year I can spell it without using spell check--that is a tricky word!)

I have found that by reading large portions of Scripture in one sitting, the content of the chapters is actually sticking with me throughout the day. I think about what I have read frequently, because the Scriptures are just on my mind. What a huge benefit.

I probably won't blog much about this resolution, except to tell you when I complete it, but for today I wanted to encourage you to persevere if the 90 Day Challenge is your goal too.

  1. Remember that OFFICIALLY you only have to be on 13 today, so you are not very behind at all! Try to catch up to the group, and don't worry about the extra days right now, there will be days in the next couple months that the reading will beg you to keep going, and you will find yourself ahead again. That is my official mentor advice ;) I am hosting Monday's twitter chat, hope to see you there!

  2. Keep it up! I always get behind while vacationing- it just seems so rude to read with your whole family around. You'll catch up. The narrative portions of the history books read very quickly. You're almost there.

  4. Good for you. Danny does this fairly frequently. One thing that helps him is to listen to it being read (on an mp3 player) while he follows along. I've never tried reading through in 3 months. I'm working on something else right now though. I'm copying the book of Genesis. I read on Pleonast where someone was encouraging their congregation to copy the entire Bible in 3 years. I didn't want to overwhelm myself with a huge commitment so I committed to one book. I chose Genesis because we're studying it in Bible class right now. Copying it down makes me slow down and really pay attention to the details.
