Running in the Woods

Our woods, that is.
We moved into this house on New Year's Day, 5 years ago, and Jimmy has been diligently working on constructing us a running trail the entire time (along with a hundred of other outside projects!). I haven't run on the trail in about a year, so I thought I would try it out. I prefer pavement when running outdoors, but running in our woods is so convenient. Julie runs on our trail all the time.

It was a tough run! I didn't fall down (like I have done the previous times I have run on our trail), but I did trip 3 or 4 times. I wasn't really sure where I was going, but I never got lost! The trail is actually two or three different paths that enter and exit the woods at various places as well as run along both sides of our creek, and also cross the creek at some points. I did the paths in the same sort of order three times, including a trek up and down the driveway each time, and my total distance was 4 miles. Trail running is slow, and there were points where I had to walk--both up and down some very steep hills. I worked muscles that haven't been worked lately with all of my treadmill running, and I was sore.

All in all, I enjoyed my run in the woods, and I plan to run 4 miles out there once a week.

  1. That sounds fun. I also don't like running on trails but sometimes it helps to give you new places to run.

  2. Pictures? We have a ranch and my mom and I dream of making trails. It's VERY difficult and involved to make trails going down into a canyon. I have several books, but we lack the equipment. My husband keeps saying if I buy him a bulldozer he'll make us some trails. Ha! We have one trail and it's too steep and treacherous to run, but we love hiking it. We dream of having a network of trails in and out of the canyon, but it probably won't ever happen. Oh, the other thing my husband says is buy dirt bikes for our family and we'll make our own trails. We're a few years away from that!

  3. I don't know how you do all that you do! I need some of your discipline and energy!

As far as homeschooling goes...we will be hitting the books in the morning right along with you all! Although I have loved the relaxed pace of our break, I am kind of looking forward to getting back into our "groove" again tomorrow! :)
