A Really Good Book

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.—2 Corinthians 1:3-5

I recently read this fabulous book, and I consider it one of the very best books I have ever read! The two authors write candidly about their personal experiences with grief and despair. One of them suffered through the agony of divorce and being left to raise his three children alone, and the other dealt with the loss of his son (car accident) and wife (complications following a heart attack). These men will inspire you to not take one single moment of your life for granted, and they will describe how they made it through the most difficult days of their lives by leaning on their Heavenly Father and by drawing comfort in His Word.

If you are presently going through troubled times in your life, this book will encourage you and help you put your problems in perspective. If you, like me, thankfully, have not had to deal with any tragic, personal event, this book is still for you! I was so encouraged and challenged by reading it! The authors are such real people, and they share the personal details of their heartbreak and grief. You will hurt with them. And you will triumph with them as they describe how with the Lord's help, they overcame it all.

In this book, Adams and Lanphear answer difficult questions that we all have concerning "why", and they list practical steps and answers to dealing with life's problems. I found that their advice (based on Scripture) can apply to all areas of our lives.

This book will make you cry, and it will encourage you to live each day of your life to the fullest, and to not take for granted the time you have with your loved ones.

I am ready to read it again!

  1. Hi Roan. I will definately try to read this one...I too have not experienced these things in my life, but we all know that we are only a phone call away from our lives changing forever. Last years experiences really took alot out of me...it drew me closer to God, yet, I now experience fear when it comes to trusting people, and I don't want to live like that.
I am rereading a book by Elisabeth George called 'Walking with the Women of the Bible'. I bought it for Scot's aunts birthday and I think EG has redone the book a bit or something...the title was 'The Remarkable Women of the Bible'. This book has very short chapters, but is sooooo very rich and encouraging, and also enlightening. I think you'd love it and might could even use it for some devotionals with Olivia and Julie.

Have a terrific week dear friend.
    We love ya'll!

  2. Sounds like a good one to have on hand. I just finished In Faithfulness He Afflicted Me by Lynette Kraft and have The Legacy of Sovereign Joy by John Piper which is about the sufferings of Augustine, Luther, and Calvin and how God was magnified in their sufferings.

  4. Came over from Boomama's, glad I did!! Recently lost a friend to an unexpected death after a surgery. Tragic loss, especially for her husband and 8 year old daughter. Can't imagine. Hope to get this book and read it for myself and then send a copy to her husband as well. Thanks for sharing!

By the way, your funny snow storm post was a lot like ours on our family blog as well (we're in Alabama, deep south as well that rarely sees the white stuff!) :)
