How To Schedule Your Homeschool Year

I have a blog post today at The Homeschool Classroom.  In my post, I list several different scenarios for scheduling your homeschool year--different combinations of weeks for school and days off for vacation time.  I think that when most people begin homeschooling, they automatically think that they have to follow the traditional school-year calendar.  While that is certainly one effective way to schedule your school year, you are not confined to that calendar.  Each family needs to consider their husband's (and sometimes the mother's too) work schedule as well as their personal preferences when choosing a school year schedule that works best for them.

Please click here to read about a few different choices of school calendars.

In just five days, our family will be beginning one part of our school calendar that everyone enjoys--5 weeks off!

  1. Great post! We tend to homeschool four days a week and do co-op one day. Our co-op for the younger children involves enrichment classes and for high school it is science with lab.

We tend to break when we need it with summer being about three days a week of just basic reading/phonics, read alouds, and maybe a few math fact thrown in. Of course we tend to do more unit studies in the summer. A fun way to beat any boredom.

That is one of the great things about homeschooling, you can find a schedule that fits your family.

Thanks for the food for thought.
