Homeschooling Many Children

I recently wrote a post for The Homeschool Classroom entitled, Homeschooling Children of Multiple Ages.  I am by no means an expert in this area, although I do have a few years of experience.  I shared some ideas that have worked with us through the years.

The main idea I want to express concerning homeschooling multiple children is that it is hard.  If you are homeschooling a few children of your own, and you feel like maybe you are doing something wrong since it takes you all day, or you feel like you are always trying to catch up.....be encouraged!  Homeschooling is hard work!  And that is okay.

I hope you enjoy the post!

"And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart."
Galatians 6:9

  1. Roan, what a delightful post - I peeked over and read it all. I loved it and could not agree more with it.

Such great ideas. Loved the bins of activities, reading out loud, keeping some work separate and having a time daily with each child.

Thank you for sharing your pearls :-)

  2. Hi, I just found your blog and I had a question. I have 5 children also and we currently use SL, how do you schedule so many different Cores for the year? Currently, I have children in Cores 200, G, C, and B and 5 weeks into our school year I am ready to call it quits. My youngest just turned 3 so I have to keep her busy too. I am going to try out some of your suggestions. Thanks!

  3. Excellent article with practical advice. You are so right -- Homeschooling is hard work! I think that we sometimes try to encourage people to home school by making it sound easier than it really is. It's hard and takes a lot of time. We have to realize it and deal with it.

  4. You do have lots of great ideas. You also have a great area to homeschool in. In our new place we have to do school at the kitchen table which is open to the living area. I have a 2 year old, a 3rd grader, and a 1st grader. Doing school is not the difficult part, it's trying to keep the 2 year old entertained during school. It's really hard.
