What kind of pencils do you use?
I have tried a variety of brands in a varied price range, and I still have not found a brand of pencils that sharpen easily without whittling away the entire pencil. Or break within one minute of use. Or sharpen on one side, but not the other. We are experiencing pencil frustration over here!
Please share the kind of pencils you like, and also include where you buy them.
Thanks so much!
Ticonderoga... They are the best we have found. We have no issues with them breaking or sharpening.
ReplyDeleteHi. I'm a new homeschooler and also a runner. I enjoy your blog, I've never commented before. I may be way off here, but have you considered the idea that maybe your trouble with pencils is your sharpener? Good luck on your pencil search!
ReplyDeleteI use mechanical pencils with all of my kids for that very reason.
ReplyDeleteI've thought it could be the pencil sharpener as well, but it happens with several sharpeners that we have purchased through the years after we have had them for a little while. I wonder if they need to be cleaned (I know to empty it ; ) ) When I sit down to work with Jackson I try to make sure we have 2-3 freshly sharpened pencils because he will always break one.
ReplyDeleteI greatly dislike the mechanical pencils as they always break...and the leads are clicked out to look at, etc. I refused to buy any this year...no matter how good the sales were.
Except for math, the older children are generally using pens. Now, if I could just get Kaelan not to use purple!!
Ticonderoga are the best pencils. NO problems since we started using them. They are a little more pricey (just a little)but worth every extra penny.
ReplyDeleteI'm a mechanical pencil fan. I like to buy the big box of disposable ones at Sam's. We were having the same problem with pencils. Whether it's the sharpener or the pencil that's the problem it causes the same result -- frustration and time wasted. None of that with mechanical pencils.
ReplyDeleteWe love the Dixon Ticonderoga Black! I get them at Wal Mart for $2/package of 10 or so. Office Max has large boxes of the Dixon Ticonderogas that are yellow, not sure about the black. They are nice also. However, I noticed that Wal Mart is carrying a Dixon that is not Ticonderoga that is a cheapy pencil so be aware of that! The Ticonderogas also have nice erasers! I cannot stand the cheapy pencils with erasers that make a mess on the paper.
